WHAT IS SCALENE MUSCLE?
Scalene is a group of neck muscles located in the sides of neck. Its three pairs of groups names are anterior, middle, posterior. Originating from cervical vertebrae inserted to first and second ribs. In-between Anterior and middle scalene muscles brachial plexus nerves are passes.
Why scalene get muscle tight?
Scalene muscles are fast twitch non postural muscles types means anatomical nature itself fatigue quickly. Habitually work for long hours with held tilted to one side, sleeping on stomach, chronic pulmonary disease cause over coughing and breathing difficulties this reasons this muscles get strained leads to develop muscle tightness causing compression of nerves passing through the muscles.
How can we treat this?
1. Myofacial Trigger Point Release on localized fascia and trigger points on scalene and associated muscles around neck.
2. Gentle stretching of individual strained muscles.
3. Mobility and progressive strengthening exercises of the neck and shoulders will prevent from this strain.
